OPENING OF THE BIGGEST HOTEL IN DENMARK

Copenhagen’s new, gigantic CABINN Metro hotel has recently opened. The hotel has been designed by the world-famous architect Daniel Libeskind, and its blue and red facade will undoubtedly attract attention.

Initially, CABINN Metro is opening three floors with approximately 100 rooms. The director of CABINN, Niels Fennet, says that within the next 14 days CABINN Metro will have a further 350 rooms ready. The official opening of the hotel is scheduled for 15th October, where all 709 rooms will be ready for occupancy. The architect, Daniel Libeskind, will attend the official opening.

The distinctive red and blue colours of the new hotel make it stand out from the other buildings in the area and render the architecture of the hotel especially conspicuous.
CABINN Metro is Daniel Libeskind's first construction and also the first stage in his plan for the L-shaped area lying south and west of the Copenhagen's Fields shopping centre. His plan is to build 187,000 m² of floor space, primarily industrial constructions, in the newly developed Ørestad suburb of Copenhagen.

"Ørestad attracts the best Danish and foreign architects, and Daniel Libeskind's plan is a good indication of the high level of ambition that typifies Ørestad. CABINN Metro is a good first example of the architecture in the area," says managing director Jens Kramer Mikkelsen of Copenhagen City & Port Development.

Daniel Libeskind originates from Poland but is now a US citizen. He had his international breakthrough as the mastermind behind the reconstruction of Ground Zero in New York and as the architect of the Jewish museums in Berlin and Copenhagen. Daniel Libeskind has received many awards and acknowledgements for his architecture, which is often unconventional and is imbued with great personality.

CABINN Metro is the first of a number of hotels planned for Ørestad. Close to CABINN, the four-star Crown Plaza hotel is currently under construction and the Bella Center hotel, projected to be the biggest hotel in the Nordic region, is scheduled for completion in 2011.
