MAYBE THE WORLD’S BEST MASTER PLAN
Sep. 22, 2009 | Topic: Property and ConstructionCopenhagen is a pioneer when it comes to ambitious urban planning and architecture of international format. The urban planning project for the Copenhagen district of Nordhavn has been nominated in the category Best Master Plan at the World Architecture Festival (WAF) in Barcelona. The festival is to take place in November.
The ambitious development project for Nordhavn, which CPH City & Port Development and Copenhagen City Council are behind, is currently the largest urban planning project in northern Europe.
The plan is being developed by COBE, Sleth and Rambøll.
"Nordhavn will place Copenhagen on the world map as a role model of how to establish a sustainable city," says Copenhagen's lord mayor Ritt Bjerregaard. "We are very proud of this nomination - it is recognition of our great efforts. Now I am looking forward to implementing the plans, so that thousands of Copenhageners can live by the sea in one of the world's most ultra-modern urban areas."
The area, to be fully developed over the next 40-50 years, will have on completion approximately 3.5 million m2 of housing.
Last year, Copenhagen received another prestigious development award - the Best Housing award for the Mountain Dwellings residential complex in Ørestad.
