COPENHAGEN IS TO BE THE WORLD'S BEST CITY TO LIVE IN
Jun. 18, 2010 | Topic: Society and livingCopenhagen is to change over the next 50 years. The city must be adapted to cyclists, art, culture, sport, young people and families with children.
Copenhagen is to be a Mecca for cyclists and supporters of green transportation. The city shall be the first CO2-neutral city in the world, and there must be plenty of housing for families with children.
The City Council has just met to consider the strategy, which for the next 50 years is to fulfill the visions of the Danish capital. The vision for Copenhagen involves the development of five neighbourhoods in Copenhagen.
Suburbs with themes
The districts are: Carlsberg, Ørestad, Sydhavn, Valby and Nordhavn, and each area will almost have their own theme.
At Carlsberg art and culture will be emphasized, while Ørestaden is to concentrate on architecture and business. Sydhavn shall be devoted to the life at the waterfront, Valby will be a sports center and Nordhavn will become a laboratory for, and an example of, sustainable urban development.
Efforts shall be made to expand the infrastructure to take cyclists into account, public transport should be extended and electric power and hydrogen cars are to be an attractive alternative to a gasoline car.
