DENMARK ATTRACTS THE WELL-EDUCATED

Denmark has become a magnet to highly educated foreigners. More and more well-educated foreigners wish to start their career in Denmark, and according to the Minister of Science, the government is to be credited for the increasing popularity.

The number of foreigners, who want their line of education approved in Denmark in regards to working here, has doubled during the last two years. An increasing number of foreigners holding a bachelor or a master’s degree are applying for Danish approval by the “green card” arrangement.

The annual report from the Minister of Science, Helge Sander, regarding assessment and approval of educational qualifications, stresses Denmark’s increasing popularity. In 2008 nearly 2,100 assessments of foreign educations were processed by CIRIUS, a branch of the Ministry of Science. This is more than twice as many as in 2006, writes Business.dk

Helge Sander is very happy with the development, which he believes to be the result of the government’s strategy to attract more highly educated labor.

“Last year, more than a third of the assessments were on par with the Danish standards for an advanced education. Previously less than a fourth was on par, which clearly states that the government’s strategy to attract more bright heads has paid off. Still more well-educated foreigners wish to work in Denmark, which benefits both Danish companies and Danish welfare”, says Helge Sander in a press release.
