REGION SUPPORTS COPENHAGEN AIRPORT WITH DKK 200 MILLION
Feb. 1, 2010 | Topic: Location and infrastructureThe Copenhagen Connected foundation is to receive DKK 200 million from the Danish state, the City of Copenhagen, the City of Malmö, Region Zealand and Region Skåne in order to attract new airlines to Copenhagen.
Funds to be made available soon
“We have to make sure that Copenhagen offers a large and attractive airport with lots of direct routes to metropolises all over the world. Direct flights in and out of Copenhagen are crucial for business development,” says Frank Jensen, Lord Mayor of Copenhagen.
The fund is not yet in place, but everything points to a result during the next couple of weeks.
New routes
The Danish state is one substantial donator and will contribute DKK 10 million per year over the next four years. The City of Copenhagen will put in DKK 2 million per year, as will Region Zealand and Sweden’s Region Skåne and the City of Malmö.
“The signs from Sweden indicate that Copenhagen Airport is not only Copenhagen’s airport but is as important to the nearby Swedish municipalities and regions as to the Danish,” says Frank Jensen.
The aim of the foundation is to develop ten new routes in and out of Copenhagen during the next four years, primarily overseas routes.
