NON TAXABLE ELECTRIC CARS UNTIL 2015
Feb. 26, 2010 | Topic: CleantechThe tax on electric vehicles will remain 0 DKK up to and including 2015. The decision to suspend the tax increase has just been made by the Danish government, and is very important for Denmark's possibilities as a green nation.
The Renault importer is very pleased. Denmark becomes the first European country to offer consumers a Renault electric car, which should already be available next summer. But part of the government's decision also entails a gradual decrease of the tax exemption after 2015. A decision which the Danish Director of Renault, Henrik Bang, also finds to be a perfectly logical step.
- New technology is expensive at first. But it is just a matter of time before it can compete with more traditional technologies. And electric vehicles are no exemption. Renault will produce several hundreds of thousands electric cars per year. Initially, an electric car may be almost twice as expensive to produce compared to a conventional car, but eventually the difference in costs will level itself out. And I think, that the time horizon set out by the government is sufficient, says Henrik Bang.
