NEW IT DEGREE TO PROVIDE BETTER HEALTH CARE
Mar. 3, 2010 | Topic: ICT and high tech industriesBy implementing the new degree course, IT physician, Copenhagen University and DTU would like to enable the digitisation of the Danish health sector.
A soaring demand for physicians with IT skills or IT people with medicine skills has brought together Copenhagen University's Faculty of Health Sciences, the Faculty of Science, the University Hospital of Copenhagen and the Technical University of Denmark. They are offering a completely new master's programme, IT-physician, which is in great demand within the areas of health, disease and technology.
According to the outlook for the future, medical development will increasingly be built on IT-supported research because such research, in the development of new drugs for instance, is becoming more complex, and because health care entails bundles of patient data, which could be applied much better in research, both in terms of prevention, treatment and rehabilitation.
Currently, 17 students are enrolled in the programme, however, the university have counted on a capacity level of 50 students.
