MEDICON VALLEY IS TO STRENGTHEN ITS POSITION
Jan. 19, 2010 | Topic: Life ScienceWe have all the preconditions for developing the Ørestad Region into a successful Medicon Valley, announces Minister of Health Jakob Axel Nielsen in Danish newspaper Berlingske Tidende without airing any concrete plans or amounts.
“Medicon Valley can be the driving force to secure that research environments all over the country can develop and that major international live science companies will have their eyes on Denmark when they research,” says Jakob Axel Nielsen.
The minister emphasizes that action is required to exploit the possibilities that Medicon Valley has.
“If the number of potentials available in Medicon Valley is to be met, political willingness, drive and collaboration between ministries, universities and hospitals are required and not least the business sectors length and breadth of Denmark and Sweden,” says Minister of Health Jakob Axel Nielsen.
The Øresund Region has 11 universities, 150,000 students and hundreds of pharmaceutical and biotech companies. Jakob Axel Nielsen believes that this is exactly why Medicon Valley is a “unique environment”.
“Few places in the world have such a high concentration of life science companies, research environments, hospitals and universities. The world’s leading pharmaceutical giants have established a business in the region and the universities in the area house researchers who are among the best in the world.”
