LARGE EU RESEARCH COLLABORATION TO BE HEADED BY THE DANISH TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY
Feb. 25, 2010 | Topic: CleantechThe Chemical Engineering department at the Danish Technical University (DTU) is to lead the 20 million DKK research project, which shall form the basis for cleaner and more efficient use of biomass for production of electricity.
The utilization of biomass for producing energy and heat is - along with solar and wind power - one of the key measures to reduce air pollution and CO2 emissions.
Biomass is CO2 neutral, but it makes a series of new requirements to the incineration technology. In the new research collaboration four European research units, each leaders within their field, have joined forces to pave the way for better and cleaner use of biomass in power plants.
The project is realised with support from the EU based ERA-Net Bioenergy Network. The Danish part of the project is supported by Energinet.dk. The project partners include CHEC research center at DTU Chemical Engineering, the Finnish Åbo Akademi University (AAU), the Norwegian Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and the Austrian company BioEnergy 2020 +, which has Graz University of Technology as a subcontractor.
The project has a total budget of 2.6 million Euros over three years.
