2009 RECORD YEAR FOR OFFSHORE WIND TURBINES
Jan. 20, 2010 | Topic: CleantechThe Danish wind turbine industry can look back on a record 2009 in installing offshore wind turbines in Europe, writes Børsen business daily.
On the European market a total output of 577 MW was installed, of which 230 MW was in Denmark.
The wind turbine manufacturer Siemens Wind Power, headquartered in Brande in Jutland but owned by German Siemens, and Danish company Vestas supplied a total of 89.5 per cent of wind turbine installations in Europe in 2009.
“It is wonderful to see that the Danish wind turbine industry is so heavily represented on the European and Danish offshore markets. It has been an exceptionally good year and this confirms Denmark’s leading position as a wind turbine country,” states general manager Jan Hylleberg from the Wind Turbine Industry in a press release.
“To maintain Denmark’s highly favourable position within the wind turbine industry, it is necessary that we have political clarification of the long-term targets for expansion going forward to 2020 - and besides, we ought to develop the required infrastructure,” concludes Jan Hylleberg.
The wind turbine industry estimates that the offshore market in Europe will grow by 75 per cent to approximately 1,000 MW in 2010 and that offshore wind turbines will account for approximately 10 per cent of the total annual turnover in wind turbines.
