JUTLAND VILLAGE TAKES ON GOOGLE

Dec. 5, 2011 | Topic: ICT and high tech industries

Soon the citizens of the small town of Tranum in Northern Jutland will be able to surf the internet at the prodigious speed of one gigabyte. The project will beat a similar initiative by Google in the United States by two years.

By January 2012 the small town of Tranum in Jutland will be able to surf the internet at a speed of one gigabyte, according to the version2.dk website

The project has been dubbed “Digital Tranum – possibly Europe’s fastest town”. Acknowledging the inspirational sarcasm the message is not all off. Collaboration between Tranum town council, the supplier Bredbånd Nord and Waoo has made the project a reality.

- Ultimately, it is all about securing Tranum’s future as an attractive town in an increasingly globalized world. We are attempting to remove geographical distances by implementing a future-oriented digital infrastructure, says a leading figure behind the venture, Per Lorenzen, Chairman of Tranum town council.

Besides enhanced access to the internet for its citizens, the Municipality of Jammerbugt will gain other advantages from the project. For instance, its citizens and the local schools will be able to benefit from digital online teaching.
