A municipality with history
The town centre of Hillerød is dominated by beautiful Frederiksborg Castle, built by King Christian IV in the first half of the 17^th century. The castle is surrounded by the castle lake and the reconstructed baroque garden. In days of old the castle served as a hunting retreat for royalty, who could enjoy its scenic location set amid the forests of northern Zealand. Today one-third of the municipality's area is covered by forest.
