Biotechnology & IT

Activities within biotechnology and IT are booming in Medicon Valley

R&D within the interdisciplinary areas of information technology and biotechnology has developed, both theoretically and technologically, extremely rapidly within the last 20 years. Experts expect a revolution in the collaboration between biology, material science, micro - and nanotechnology and information technology.

Great potential
Medicon Valley has great potential to play a key role in this development and the region can already show good examples of how to connect the two research areas:

  • Nanobiotechnology (e.g. Technical University of Denmark, University of Copenhagen, Lund Institute of Technology and Lund University)
  • Systems Biology (e.g. Lund University, Technical University of Denmark and Hagedorn Research Institute)
  • 3D modelling of molecular structures (e.g. Danish University of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Lund University)
  • Bioinformatics (e.g. Technical University of Denmark)
  • Biochips (e.g. Technical University of Denmark)

Several companies in Medicon Valley are active in the research area of biotechnology and IT, including Exiqon, NUNC, BioImage, DanChip, Chempaq, LiPlasome Pharma, Sophion Bioscience and Atomistix.
