Pharmexa to Acquire Assets from IDM Pharma and Establishes US Subsidiary

Pharmexa A/S and IDM Pharma, Inc. have entered into an agreement whereby Pharmexa will acquire certain infectious disease and other assets from IDM related to the former San Diego-based company Epimmune Inc., which was recently merged with IDM S.A.

The assets include a fully operational and equipped research and development facility in San Diego, California, certain immunotherapy technology and intellectual property as well as a partly funded clinical pipeline focused on infectious diseases.

The assets acquired from IDM include the PADRE and EIS technologies and IP. The PADRE consists of a family of proprietary molecules, which are potent universal immunostimulants. PADRE is already an important part of a number of Pharmexa's AutoVac programs and is a highly complementary technology to the AutoVac technology as well as Pharmexa's peptide vaccine programs. The Epitope Identification System, EIS, technology is a proprietary technology to identify, develop and modify epitopes and includes a proprietary epitope library consisting of more than 75,000 epitopes, predominantly within cancer and infectious diseases.

Further, Pharmexa has acquired an infectious disease franchise consisting of clinical and pre-clinical programs in HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, human papilloma virus, malaria and flu. The infectious disease portfolio includes a revenue-generating collaboration with Innogenetics on a hepatitis B vaccine, a hepatitis C vaccine and a human papilloma virus vaccine, and a large grant from the US NIH on developing a prophylactic HIV vaccine and a grant to develop a malaria vaccine.
