New Anti-Diabetic Food Centre at Lund University
At Lund University a new multidisciplinary research facility, Anti-Diabetic Food Centre, has opened. The research at the new centre will focus on the correlation between the intestine's ecosystem and the risk factors of the metabolic syndrome, e.g. obesity, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and other related diseases. Head of the centre Professor Inger Björck says: "In these areas Lund University and the participating companies have very high qualifications".
The purpose of the centre is not only to produce a high level of scientific research, but eventually to introduce new products to the market. Therefore, the members are not only biotechnology companies, but also representatives from the region's innovative system i.e. the agency who promote the commercialization of new products. These companies include Region Skåne, Innovationsbron Syd AB, Aventure AB, Dr PersFood AB, Möller/Collect, Probi AB, Semper AB. Swedish Starch Manufacturers' Union, and Umetrics AB.
The research foundation Vinnova has chosen the centre as a Vinn Excellence Center, and is contributing with EUR 9.4 million to the project.
