ALK-Abelló Initiates Clinical Development Program with Ragweed Tablet

ALK-Abelló A/S has received approval from the US FDA to conduct a clinical study, RT-01, in the US with a tablet-based allergy vaccine against ragweed under an Investigational New Drug application.

The objective of the study, which is a Phase I tolerability study, is to evaluate dosage and safety of the tablet in adult patients suffering from hay fever caused by allergy to ragweed pollen. The study is expected to be completed towards the end of 2006.

Ragweed pollen is one of the most frequent causes of allergy and hay fever on the North American continent, where about 30 million allergy patients suffer from this type of pollen allergy. In Europe, on the other hand, ragweed is not very common.
