Active Biotech Announces Successful Completion of Studies of ANYARA

Active Biotech AB has announced the successful completion of three Phase I clinical studies of ANYARA for the treatment of advanced non-small cell lung cancer, renal cell cancer, and pancreatic cancer. These studies confirm that ANYARA has now demonstrated pharmacological proof of concept. ANYARA is a unique form of cancer treatment in which an antibody combined with a toxin stimulates the immune system to specifically attack the tumour cells.

The upcoming Phase II/III trial is a randomized study of ANYARA in combination with interferon A, versus interferon A alone in patients with advanced stage renal cell cancer. The study will be carried out at 45 sites in Europe, and is under initiation.

The primary endpoint for this trial is overall survival and will include approximately 500 patients. The expected median survival of these patients is 10-15 months and the duration of the trial will be dependant on the number of deaths recorded. An interim analysis based on approximately 200 included patients is planned for mid 2008.
