7TM Pharma Initiates Clinical Trials for Treatment of Obesity
7TM Pharma A/S has started phase I/II clinical trials with TM30338 from its Y receptor program for the treatment of obesity. TM30338 has a novel, unique mode of action and is derived from the company's proprietary platform of Y receptor peptides. 7TM Pharma's Y receptor peptides have been developed using the company's structure based drug discovery approach as well as world-leading expertise specifically within the Y receptor field.
Two distinct types of Y receptors have been validated in man as appetite suppressive drug targets using natural hormones. TM30338 is a novel, proprietary compound with improved properties as a drug candidate, which in a single peptide targets both of these two appetite suppressive receptors. In fat-induced obese animals TM30338 has demonstrated clear superiority in respect of long term reduction of food intake and weight as compared to the natural hormone PYY3-36, which only targets one of the Y receptors.
7TM Pharma A/S is a drug discovery and development company focusing on medicines acting through 7TM receptors. The company is integrating its structure-based drug discovery approach, Site-Directed Drug Discovery with traditional medicinal chemistry and peptide insight and has thereby created a drug discovery platform that accelerates the generation of new drugs targeting 7TM receptors. The company's pipeline includes several well advanced programs within its main therapeutic focus area - metabolic disorders/obesity - as well as other programs on well validated targets in allergy/ inflammation, therapeutic angiogenesis and cardiovascular diseases. In parallel, the company has entered into several collaborative drug-discovery partnerships, including agreements with Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical Inc., Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals Inc., H.Lundbeck A/S, and AstraZeneca.
