7TM Pharma Obtains Patent Protection for Obinepitide and TM30339
7TM Pharma A/S announces that the company has been granted patents in the UK covering the use of the drug candidates Obinepitide and TM30339, both for the treatment of obesity.
Obinepitide is a close analogue of two natural hormones, each with different mechanisms of action, which are incorporated into one compound, Obinepitide. TM30339 is an analogue of the natural hormone, Pancreatic Polypeptide, PP, which is released in connection with meals.
Obinepitide is a so-called Y receptor peptide and comes from 7TM Pharma's own drug discovery. Phase I/II clinical studies in more than 125 healthy volunteers and patients have shown that Obinepitide has an attractive safety profile. Moreover, it was observed that Obinepitide inhibited food intake at a statistically significant level for up to nine hours after subcutaneous administration once daily to obese persons.
TM30339 works through the same receptor as the natural satiety hormone, PP, but TM30339 has improved properties compared with PP. TM30339 thus imitates a natural mechanism, a satiety signal from the gastrointestinal system involved in the regulation of food intake in humans.
